Expressing obligation

In French, several expressions are used to express obligation.

1. “il faut” + infinitive (general obligation) Exemple : Il faut nourrir les animaux tous les jours. / Example: You must feed the animals every day.

2. “devoir” + infinitive verb (personal obligation) Exemple : Nous devons arroser les légumes. / Example: We must water the vegetables.

3. “être obligé(e) de” + infinitive (strong constraint) Exemple : Nous sommes obligés de ramasser les œufs. / Example: We are obliged to collect the eggs.
